Astragals
As opposed to mullions, which are fixed in place, astragals move with the door system. Typically astragals are used on a double entrance door, where one side is normally fixed and the other side is operating. The astragal is attached to the edge of the normally fixed door, and is then held in place by flush bolts which extend into the head and sill. To open both doors, the flush bolts are opened. When closed, the astragal provides a solid edge for the operating door to seal onto, and therefore contains a kerf groove for the weatherstrip to fit into.
Weston inventories 1-3/8 x 3-5/16” and 1-3/8 x 4-1/2” astragals for both 6’8” and 8’0” door systems.
